MEDIA COMMUNICATION FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (MCCD)

Machakos University participated in a four- day community radio development program from 12th October, 2022 to 16th October, 2022. The team from Machakos University which included two faculty members (Dr. Vifu Makoti and Dr. Florence Mmbwanga) and twelve students from the department of Linguistics and Languages were hosted by Prof. Jerry Agalo and students from Rongo University (The School of Information communication and Media Studies)

The main purpose of this participation was to bench mark on community media and community radio development. This program focuses on enhancing the interaction between people promoting change that will impact positively on improving the living conditions of the participating communities who are lowly endowed and the people with whom they work to actualize their dream.

It is apparent that Kenya is one of the countries to have less community radios. However, with more vernacular Radios that are always confused for community radio yet they are commercial stations, Machakos University has shown a great move and intends to set an example by dedicating their time and resources to learn more about community media and to participate in the community radio development program.

Both teams from Machakos University and Rongo University also visited Cham Gi Wadu, community in South Kamagambo location, Migori county,  Rusinga Island and the Tom Mboya Museum in Migori County.
